Its not really a question if Google+ is popular but rather, is it already popular across the netizens around the world? As you can see, several reports have surfaced that not only the new social-networking is only concentrated on men, it appears G+ still haven’t penetrated the large teen group as well as the non-techie individuals who composed the tens of millions of users in Facebook.

If you’ve been following the news for Google Plus this week, the company officially announced last Wednesday it already acquired 10 million users and up to a billion of items shared everyday. The issue here is, it’s purely concentrated on men of the industry who are overexposed on the latest tech news. How about those average people whom you just encounter at local places? – Well, chances are they don’t know Google+ yet and still using Facebook.

This is the number one reason why Facebook still remains the omnipotent social-network site but of course, we shouldn’t be too hard on Google+ since its about to reach its third week only. Who knows how many amazing features Big G is planning to rollout on Plus for the next month to come, not to mention the service is still in beta.

I’m not going to beat behind the bush here. Deleting your Facebook account and moving to Google+ could be the most senseless and unwise move you could ever possibly do on your social-media life since the latter service is still growing, unfinished, and like a half-baked cake that still need to be put on the oven. In our previous report, we revealed our top 6 wishlist to drastically improve G+. In addition to that, I believe that as soon as Google introduce this service on the mainstream, it should collaborate with other social-media groups to advertise it even more.

Until I’ve heard my non-techie friends here wanting to join Google+, my Facebook account will always be here.

Yesterday the Sony LT29i Hayabusa leaked in a blurry shot. Shortly after that the official announcement came.
  
Today we have another Sony leak for you as the first images of the Sony ST26i surfaced. Obviously it’s an Xperia smartphone running on Android, but thats about as much as we can tell you about the specs. Unlike the Japan-bound duo unveiled earlier, though, this one keeps the capacitive keys instead of relying on on-screen buttons. Let’s hope the ST26i won’t be released with Gingerbread as the Xperia S and its smaller siblings.

There is one more interesting thing about the Xperia ST26i – it’s the first Sony smartphone to lack the green globe logo since Sony purchased Ericssons share in the joint venture.

The iPad mini has been on sale for a few months now, so when will we get the iPad mini 2?

It seems like Apple has been surprised by the iPad mini demand, although there are no real sales numbers for the device from Apple as yet

The story goes that the iPad mini 2 will have an even sharper display of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels packed into the same 7.9-inch space.

RBC Capital Markets analyst Doug Freedman - who was in China visiting chip companies in mid-December 2012 said: "iPad Mini Gen-2: Apples gen-2 iPad mini is getting pulled-in, and is likely to have several new suppliers, with TXN gaining content."

It seems like Apple might have to do a little more than pump up the screen resolution to get consumers excited for the next pint-sized iPad.

With production of the sharper screens projected to start by the later half of 2013, the iPad mini 2 release date could be mid to late 2013? And could March be the release date for a revised version?

Ming-Chi Kuo, a financial analyst with KGI Securities, has published what is believed to be a leaked roadmap of Apple products for 2013. That points at an iPad mini 2 being released late in the year.

The grown up iPad 4 has a Retina display, and the next mini should either have that Retina tech or something similar.

Since the mini is much smaller, it means even more pixels can be cramped into every inch; the mini 2 is said to have a crisp 324 ppi density.

Upping the screen resolution isnt the most surprising upgrade for the potential iPad mini 2.

The biggest criticism of the current iPad mini so far is its 1,024 x 768 resolution. Critics wonder why a Retina display wasnt incorporated into the first iPad mini to begin with.

Cynics will say Apple went with a lower resolution so it had some low hanging fruit to grab for the next upgrade. Production problems surrounding the iPad mini might also be the culprit.

Anand Lal Shimpi and Vivek Gowri of Anandtech suggest that there are three things Apple has to do to bring a retina display to the iPad mini.

Reports in February 2013 suggested the iPad mini 2 retina display was already being manufactured. Its suggested that it will have a pixel density of 324ppi.

When the iPad mini was first released, reports said the steep price point of $329/£269/AU$369 was due to manufacturing difficulties. Indeed, well into early 2013, iPad minis were not shipping quickly.

The new GF DITO touchscreen technology that helps make the mini so small is reportedly one of many production hurdles.

AU Optronics (AUO), the company that produces the current iPad mini LCD panels, was also having yield issues with the mini screens at first, so a Retina-like display could have caused additional production headaches.

However, AUO claims it smoothed out production problems surrounding the current panels, already resolving the light leak issues that held up fabrication.

On one of my recent chats with Craig Pringle (tablet PC MVP New Zealand) I was introduced to Buzz Bruggeman of Pete Weldon in Florida, 4pm their time. Now, if you ever have a chance to have a beer with these two chaps then you should definitely take it up. Apart from oozing with enthusiasm for all things Tablet they’re also focused on world domination too. It seemed that for every challenge presented, they had a solution; and for every solution they actually had a service pack downloadable at some forward-slash address I’d never heard of!!!

We sat through the morning talking Tablet PC, Origami and more. Our conversation also moved onto name dropping…a competition declared even at fulltime.

I’m excited about Active Words and am happily linking you to Craig Pringles ActiveWordsDemo. I’m a strong believer that Active Words is the programmable button that the Slate tablet has been missing. With this application you can program any given word to then be used as a trigger for an event. When you consider that I am currently running three different slates (keyboardless), then having this mechanism has accelerated the way I work. For e.g. I now input into the Active Words panel “@neil” and my email client is launched with Dr. Neil Roodyn’s email address already typed into the address box.

Let’s put this into perspective. Normally on my slate I would launch Outlook via my start menu (I’m not a fan of desktop icons or Quick Launch either) and then click on “new” to compose an email. Then via the Tablet input panel I would type the letter “n” for Neil and select Dr. Neil from the selections available. With Active Words all I do is write "@neil" (because that’s the way I distinguish an email to Neil as opposed to other triggers I have set for Neil) and the rest is done for me…too cool!

Some facts I learnt today:

• ActiveWords software stores your database of words in a file that can be backed up and migrated to other installations.
• ActiveWords PLUS gives you the ability to install the product on all your computers (as long as theyre for your own use).
• ActiveWords Enterprise edition allows you to share your companies "ActiveWords" directory over a network. This means that company related triggers can be accessed simultaneously across and network, with out the need to configurations on every computer.
• ActiveWords has the ability to receive both "Ink" and "Type" in the input panel.

So sad...but Im still like a kid when these come in!

Today was certainly an exciting day with the arrival of the the FedEX man! As per most days there is always a sense of enthusiasm when he knocks but on this day we knew it was extra special. Inside the box...Australias first Viliv N5 and Vili S10 in the same box!!!

With 10hrs battery life it was easy to see where it gets it from. When I flipped over the machine there was a massive hole looking for a chunky bit of lithium ion polymer to fill its shoes. Its the smartest battery design Ive seen in an Ultra-Mobile PC design and with all 7.4V to power itself from it was no surprise why the S10 Blade does so well on the battery life stakes.

It is a convertible notebook but by its weight and design you would almost swear its a slate. In hand it is light to hold and the swivel action is very refined and a credit to Viliv as it is their first attempt at such a device. It is so much lighter than the Fujitsu P1630, and better built than the ASUS T91 (not hard) so over all a great effort.

this is why they call it The Blade!!!

When this unit is in slate mode it becomes very obvious just how skilful it is. With the amazing ability to act wafer thin while still packing a keyboard I can see Im starting to fall in love with the unit as a possible "preferred" device. I really didnt think I would be this enamoured but with multi-touch, an SD card slot, built-in 3G and SSD, 2x USB ports and the awesome ability to turn itself into a external storage device (thanks to mini USB port you can plug it into another machine and read data from it), I think this unit is special.

Slated for action!

I like the minimalistic design and the fact that it has a camera. It has been hard to think about the iPad movement and actually suggest there is an alternative in the PC world, but this may be it! I love the portability and the battery life, and the simple design, and nice exterior feel it means that it can sit in your hand quite nicely and perhaps be considered one of the true iPad killers on the market!

N5 has silky (sexy) matt finish

The N5 is so new what I have in my hand is a pre-pre-production model. It has the best feeling (almost felt-like) exterior which means it is a very desirability machine (almost sexy). It has been designed to give a touch experience in your pocket with all the functionality Windows provides. With built-in 3G, large keyboard and long life battery I think this will also turn heads at CeBIT Australia.

N5 open!

I like that the keyboard has left-click and right-click, all the keys needed to work "normally" including the Windows key, and that the screen is quite readable outdoors. It is a light device and will definitely find a happy home amongst consumers. Between the S10 and the N5 I favour the S10 as I like screen real-estate too much but ultimately they are both innovative enough to be called "real" Ultra-Mobile PC. They will be officially launched in Australia on Monday the 24th of May on Tegatech Australia stand (R61).

Related to patent dispute with Apple, Samsung would seem to have the support of Google, who also became rivals Apple in the arena of competitive mobile operating system.

Samsung and Google have indeed been a productive partnership in the technology industry sectors. Samsung has even become the top vendor, as a maker of smartphones that come with Googles operating system.

More recently, a court in the United States had decided would block the sale of Galaxy Nexus, which is a work of cooperation between Samsung and Google. Well, since that decision, according to the information reported by the Korea Times, the two companies have worked together to create a united front against attack Apple.

Involvement of Google into a bitter patent battle between Samsung and Apple are very easy to guess. Remember, the Samsung is claimed Apple violated patents that come with more Android operating system. Moreover, the alleged Apple these days is a device which is the result of cooperation between the two, the Galaxy Nexus.

On the other hand, Samsung is also returned Apple to the point that it had violated a number of wireless patents belong to him, in which it has filed lawsuits in various parts of the world.

Thrust of what will be done Samsung and Google in legal battle with Apple, it has not disclosed further. However, the Samsung is determined to do my best.

"Too early to comment on our plans (with Google) in a legal battle, but we will do our best to get more royalties from Apple, which has benefited from our technology," said the man in the Samsung as reported by the Korea Times.

"This fight becomes more dramatic and the possibility of a cease-fire in the form of cross-licensing agreement, it seems very possible," continued the source.

Samsung reports that Apple is rumored to have demanded to pay 2.4 percent of the retail price of the iPhone and iPads, while Apple claims the figure is exaggerated. Samsung also has filed an appeal related to the initial court ruling that bans impact on Galaxy Nexus smartphone sales in the United States.

As quoted via PhoneArena, Samsung Galaxy Express for AT & T network will carry the 4.5-inch screen Super AMOLED Plus, dual-core processor speed 1.5 GHz, 5 megapixel camera with flash, and equipped with a battery capacity of 2,000 mAh.

Samsung Galaxy Express will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and support for 4G LTE networks.
